Your description of it is also quite vague as shiloh , old reliable and sharps all together either is a italian gun or one from across the street or a parts gun. If loaded optimally you shouldn't have much of a fouling problem. In my experience the larger capacity cases is where fouling control becomes a bugaboo. In my breech loaders BP will clean completely with a half dozen patches.

When loading for the 'newer' style barrels (Sharps and Winchesters), bullet diameter to fit the bore is critical, as well as loading the powder charges to get custom accuracy from each individual weapon.
