EOFB might not be seen in a bright sky background, though. 8mm--just average for a low priced widefield, with a trace of EOFB at the edge and astigmatic stars 5mm--about the same as the 8mm 3.5mm--I didn't test. So eyepieces with corrected distortion (when distortion curve goes to be positive on half of field and then suddenly returns back to zero at FOV edge) shall have certain amount of EOFB.

I notice it in all of my eyepieces although least in my 24mm Brandon. I notice it with both scopes although more strongly in the Celestron achromat as compared with the Antares achromat. The one bright spot was the centre was very sharp and contrasty. Very good build-quality. Far better than the crude black anodizing seen on some other eyepieces. WebNov 26, 2006 · Had my 25 BST Starguider out against my 25 Meade HD60 a few nights ago to compare them and noticed the Starguider had a level of Edge of Field Brightening (EoFB) that the HD60 did not. So decided to take the Starguider apart to see if anything looked like it might be the culprit.

At the edge of eye lens, a 82 degree eyepiece with a 17 mm eye lens can only have 10 mm of eye relief.
